The Church in the Heart of Humble

Sunday School

Sunday Mornings at First United Methodist in Humble

Classes are available for children from birth through fifth grade at 9:40am.  Loving teachers provide a variety of opportunities for children to explore the Bible and to Build relationships with others through small groups.  Classes include Bible stories, crafts, music, games, snacks and many other exciting ways for children to experience the love of Jesus Christ.

These classes are located in the Education Building.

Our Elementary grades use the Live B.I.G. curriculum.  Living B.I.G. means coming to know and love Jesus and living out our belief in God.  It means growing as children of God and developing a faith that lasts a lifetime.

Lessons are based on three B.I.G. (Believe In God) Truths:

               1.     God is a great big God
               2.     God loves us with a great big love
               3.     We are a part of God's great big world.

At 10:50, we offer Sunday School to children 2 years of age.  The 2-year olds meet in Room 147We teach values in every word we say and in every action we take.  Your child is just beginning his or her formal faith education.  Each week, each child receives a card that will have a Bible-based story on it.  It will also contain valuable information to help you teach faith to your child.

"Where Do I Go For Sunday School?"

Nursery
Our Nursery is staffed with highly trained, loving caregivers who ensure that your child has a positive experience while at church.  Childcare is provided for infants during the 8:30am and 10:50am worship and 9:40am Sunday School hour in Room 144 in the Nursery pod of our Education Building, as well as during other church events and activities.

Pre-School:

2's & 3's ~  Room 147
Forget everything you have every heard about this age level.  This is a delightful age.  The children will change almost before your eyes!   Parents bring young children to church to help the children grow in faith.  Parents don't expect church to be just a place where young children are cared for during Sunday School and worship.  We teach values in every word we say and in every action we take.  Your child is just beginning his or her formal faith education.  Each week, each child receives a card that will have a Bible-based story on it.  It will also contain valuable information to help you teach faith to your child.

4's--Kindergarten ~ Room 143
Our 4 and 5 year olds are building a solid Sunday School Foundation.  Our 4 and 5 year olds will come to an understanding of the different parts of worship -- gathering, praising, praying, proclaiming the word and responding. Using the psalms and various New Testament references, the children will experience an understanding so that they can participate in their class worship as well as the corporate worship of the larger congregation.

Tree House 321 ~ 1st, 2nd and 3rd Graders
This class meets in Room 207 in the Elementary Wing of the Education Building.  As the children have named it -- this is "Our Church's Tree House."  And the children have made it their very own. Wooden benches, a massive winding tree, even a rainbow can be seen from between the boards in the tree house.

This class is very mission oriented.  With the support of our congregation, they accepted a challenge to assist the Harris County Foster Care Program here in the Houston area in collecting needed backpacks for children, their own age as well as every other age, that are faced with foster care for the first time in their lives.  They are filling these much needed backpacks with personal-need items donated by the congregation and community.    To date, they have provided over 50 backpacks to the Harris County Foster Care Program.

Children's Church

We have said that we want to be a “Child Friendly” church and we have been asking what that means and how we go about doing it.  January 1, 2008, we made a few changes to better our ministries to children.

During the 10:50 service, we began a “Children’s Church” ministry for children from 3 years of age through the First Grade.  We want to invite these children to sit with their parents during the first part of the service.  This will allow them to see their parents worship and to make worship a family experience. They will have the opportunity to experience worship as a “family value” in this time.  Along the way, they will see us sing our hymns, pray and be the family of God.

After the Children’s Moments, the children can either return to sit with their parents or go to “Children’s Church” (Room 142), according to the preferences of their parents.

Children younger than 3 are welcome to remain in the nursery or to sit with their parents.  Some parents may wish to have their children start in the sanctuary and then take them to the nursery after the Children’s Moments, and this is certainly possible.

All in all, Children's Church is a program in which the children will come to an understanding of the different parts of worship -- gathering, praising, praying, proclaiming the word and responding through bible stories, crafts and songs.
